This was beautifully written but a bit slow for my taste。

The prose of this book is unmatched。 I found myself intentionally reading it slowly to soak up every word。 10/10 incredible, recommend this book to everyone

It's quite long and I read it in a day- which implies how much I enjoyed it。 the two main characters are loveable and the story is gripping- highly recommended It's quite long and I read it in a day- which implies how much I enjoyed it。 the two main characters are loveable and the story is gripping- highly recommended 。。。more

Excellent!

Loved the book, ending was a bit blah。

Recalled one of my favorite memoirs about Nazi-occupied France by Jacques Lusseyran, a blind Resistance fighter, so I enjoyed that aspect。 I found the short chapter structure a little discombobulating, but not a complaint: more a personal preference。 Reading is the opposite of social media for me。 I love a deep immersive experience。 Some of the chapters were as short as a paragraph and made it hard to immerse myself。

Un libro che ha un anima delicata, profonda e vera。 Un libro che insegna che nelle le avversità non esistono avversari e ognuno può dare il meglio di sé, quando è il momento giusto。 I sogni ci portano a compiere il nostro destino。 Sognamo。

I understand why this book received as many prizes and accolades as it did, but it fell flat for me because I felt there was no drive propelling me forward to keep reading。 It took me 8 full weeks of leaving it and going back to it to finish it, but I was determined because I hate abandoning a book。 There were lovely moments, the descriptive prose and seeing life through Marie Laure was poetic。 However I felt the meeting of Marie laure and Werner was unfulfilling… it felt that the novel was lead I understand why this book received as many prizes and accolades as it did, but it fell flat for me because I felt there was no drive propelling me forward to keep reading。 It took me 8 full weeks of leaving it and going back to it to finish it, but I was determined because I hate abandoning a book。 There were lovely moments, the descriptive prose and seeing life through Marie Laure was poetic。 However I felt the meeting of Marie laure and Werner was unfulfilling… it felt that the novel was leading to that (in fact I became confused about what the real purpose of the narrative was a lot throughout) and fell flat。 I really didn’t like Von Rumpel’s narrative, those chapters really dragged for me and I found the stone… a little far fetched for a historical novel。 I did love Werner and Marie laure respectively but the over arching narrative and how LONG it took to get anywhere (although I’m not even entirely sure I was satisfied that it ever did get anywhere meaningful) took a long, long time。 I enjoyed parts of it, particularly Marie laures younger years and werners relationship with Frederick; but overall, not a memorable novel for me。 3 stars。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Great book with exquisite attention to detail。 Pritzker Prize winner for a reason。 My only complaint is an unnecessary (in my opinion) rape scene to a secondary character at the end。

Absolutely beautiful。 Still crying。 Will not be the same after this book。

I would award this book more than 5 stars if I could!

This is really good book which takes you through the lives of young children and few adults as they live through war in Germany and France。 The innocence robbed out of the young and their hopes and dreams reduced to being vehicles of propaganda, all show us the unfair intense world of war and the consequences it has。 The characters are so well written that you feel them as though you know them well。 The story does feel slightly slow in the middle but towards the end it picks up。 Also, it is good This is really good book which takes you through the lives of young children and few adults as they live through war in Germany and France。 The innocence robbed out of the young and their hopes and dreams reduced to being vehicles of propaganda, all show us the unfair intense world of war and the consequences it has。 The characters are so well written that you feel them as though you know them well。 The story does feel slightly slow in the middle but towards the end it picks up。 Also, it is good to see the story being wrapped up well so you know what has happened to all the characters。 I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone who would like to read a book based during the war time and tells the story of children who grew up due to the circumstances and how they get affected by war and propaganda。 。。。more

3。5 maybe? Well written, but took me a couple of tries reading the book before I got into it。 Even then, it wasn’t my very favorite, but an interesting idea。

Listened on audio。 It was so confusing- too much back and forth between characters and timelines。 I wanted to love it, but I just always felt like I was trying to connect the pieces。 I really loved some of the characters- especially Marie Laure。

This book offered a different yet encapsulating tale of stories among historical fiction novels。 It was slow-burning and amplifying into the climax and peak of the story。 It is not just about the nightmares and horrors of war, it about the dreams of two siblings and that of a girl who made this story so beautiful。 I kept stopping at the remaing chapters of this book because I cannot seem to process how the plot progressed。 It leaves me shattered, heartbroken, and crying。 But, you know what, this This book offered a different yet encapsulating tale of stories among historical fiction novels。 It was slow-burning and amplifying into the climax and peak of the story。 It is not just about the nightmares and horrors of war, it about the dreams of two siblings and that of a girl who made this story so beautiful。 I kept stopping at the remaing chapters of this book because I cannot seem to process how the plot progressed。 It leaves me shattered, heartbroken, and crying。 But, you know what, this novel has kept me believing that things happen for a reason。 Our lives are tied with one another。 Someday, we will arrive at the end of the tunnel。 。。。more

I absolutely adored this book。 I won't lie, the way the timeliness are laid out and the jumping from the "present" to the past admittedly got a little frustrated but I absolutely loved this。 It follows the pov of a blind French girl and poor German boy and quite frankly I like the German boy's pov the most。10/10 Highly recommend, I will defiently be reading more by Anthony Doerr I absolutely adored this book。 I won't lie, the way the timeliness are laid out and the jumping from the "present" to the past admittedly got a little frustrated but I absolutely loved this。 It follows the pov of a blind French girl and poor German boy and quite frankly I like the German boy's pov the most。10/10 Highly recommend, I will defiently be reading more by Anthony Doerr 。。。more

I cannot understand why this is so popular。 It would have been so easy to make me care about the two main characters, but I didn't。 I cannot understand why this is so popular。 It would have been so easy to make me care about the two main characters, but I didn't。 。。。more

Wonderfully written, however it’s long and exhausting。

Beautifully written, but slow going。 Especially in the beginning。

It was entertaining, but I didn't like it switching back and forth from one person to another person's story。 I knew that they would intersect at some point, but it just wasn't great for me。 I'm not really sure that I understood the title and/or the meaning。 It was an ok read for me。 It was entertaining, but I didn't like it switching back and forth from one person to another person's story。 I knew that they would intersect at some point, but it just wasn't great for me。 I'm not really sure that I understood the title and/or the meaning。 It was an ok read for me。 。。。more

I really loved this book and it's one of the best I've read in the past year。 The description of Marie-Laure's first time at the ocean was one of the most beautiful things I've ever read。I've seen complaints about the alternating timelines but for me, it was a great way to build suspense。 I have to say I also appreciated the short chapters that really kept the story moving。 I also didn't find it overly descriptive at all。 I've gotten a little fed up with the writing style where there are long li I really loved this book and it's one of the best I've read in the past year。 The description of Marie-Laure's first time at the ocean was one of the most beautiful things I've ever read。I've seen complaints about the alternating timelines but for me, it was a great way to build suspense。 I have to say I also appreciated the short chapters that really kept the story moving。 I also didn't find it overly descriptive at all。 I've gotten a little fed up with the writing style where there are long lists of things, thoughts and memories that appears to be quite common in some books I've read recently。 This happens a few times towards the end of the book, but this book was thankfully free of this。 。。。more

5/5 stars!Wow。 Just wow。 Okay, let’s break this down。 Anthony Doerr’s All the Light We Cannot See is, by no stretch of imagination, a triumph of the historical fiction genre。 Throughout the tale, Doerr weaves imagination, greed, treachery, longing, romance, passion, and action in a seamless pattern that never fails to deliver。 His historical knowledge and grasp of time is stunning, and it shows in the naming of places and people and the delicate placement of events。 It’s easy to see just how gen 5/5 stars!Wow。 Just wow。 Okay, let’s break this down。 Anthony Doerr’s All the Light We Cannot See is, by no stretch of imagination, a triumph of the historical fiction genre。 Throughout the tale, Doerr weaves imagination, greed, treachery, longing, romance, passion, and action in a seamless pattern that never fails to deliver。 His historical knowledge and grasp of time is stunning, and it shows in the naming of places and people and the delicate placement of events。 It’s easy to see just how genius the titular concept is once you get into the book。 This only becomes more apparent and clever as the parallel stories battle on: one of a boy thrown about in the heart of 1940s Germany, the other of a blind girl navigating a life broken by disappearances, mysteries, and psychological tests。 The stories grow closer and closer throughout the tale, eventually coalescing into one before breaking apart again。 Doerr’s prose is evocative, his short-chapter style is encouraging to the reader, and his mastery of character shines off every surface he describes。 His metaphors never fail to bring the scene to life。 The town of Saint-Malo is a gorgeous setting and one that embraces the curiosity of the characters。 The ending closes the story beautifully, bringing together everything we ever could have wanted to see。 The messages portrayed are powerful。 They moved me deeply, and I am not one to be easily affected by a text in this way。 While I was a bit underwhelmed by one aspect of the climax, the rest was presented meticulously。 Good going, Anthony Doerr。 I hope to read more of your books in the future。 。。。more

Beautiful and painful at the same time, the story fashioned from radio waves and childhood memories did not seem cliche nor forced。 War changes people and Anthony Doer does an amazing job of showing different perspectives and the most truthful lesson for all: during and after war, there are no winners。

Mình không quá ấn tượng với cuốn sách này。
